Kung Fu 12 Szechuan (Baltimore) 功夫十二
About This Spot
Stepping into Kung Fu 12 Szechuan in Lutherville feels like entering a warmly inviting corner where the rich and varied flavors of China come alive in a relaxed yet attentive setting. The space hums with a gentle energy — part neighborhood gathering spot, part culinary discovery — where the pace allows conversation to flow as effortlessly as the shared dishes. It’s the kind of place where the clink of chopsticks and the aromatic steam rising from the kitchen create a comforting backdrop for moments meant to be savored.
The atmosphere strikes a careful balance between casual and thoughtful, lending itself perfectly to both intimate dinners and lively family meals. Large turntables at the tables encourage communal dining, a practice that feels both traditional and deeply human, inviting diners to lean into the joy of sharing. The service moves with a steady rhythm, ensuring that dishes arrive quickly yet without rushing the senses.
Eating here is less about checking boxes and more about savoring an unfolding story of flavors. Whether it’s the intricate spiciness of Szechuan peppercorns, the delicate texture of steamed dim sum, or the comforting warmth of a hot pot bubbling with layers of taste, each plate feels rooted in craft and care. Familiar favorites find new life alongside less common treasures — the balance of Northern and Southern Chinese influences adds a refreshing depth that keeps the menu exciting.
The best moments at Kung Fu 12 happen in those small human exchanges — a shared pickled cabbage between friends, the subtle heat that sparks a knowing smile, or the way a perfectly cooked duck brings a quiet satisfaction without overwhelming the palate. Here, food becomes a kind of conversation, gentle and grounding, shaped by tradition but welcoming to the unexpected.
For anyone intrigued by the rhythms and textures of authentic Chinese dining, this unassuming spot offers an experience that feels honest and connected — a place where the craft behind every dish quietly shines and the atmosphere wraps around you like a familiar story told just right.

Probably the best Chinese I've had in a while in Baltimore. We used to go to the Orient in Towson but it's no longer around. Atmosphere was great. Food was quick, although at times came out too quickly. Some of us got appetizers at the same time as mains. But overall, definitely give this place a try if looking for Chinese.

I had an incredible experience dining at Gong Fu 12 yesterday, and I have to say it has quickly become my favorite restaurant in the DMV area. They create a wonderful blend of flavors from both Northern and Southern Chinese cuisines, resulting in a diverse menu full of exciting dishes. The quality of the food is exceptional, and I was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices for such delicious meals. It's a place where you can truly indulge in a culinary adventure! You will appreciate me for introducing you to this excellent restaurant.

Very good food. Has Szechuan style as well as Cantonese style Chinese food. I might say even better than many other Chinese restaurants I've been to.

I ordered the beer-cooked duck, and I must say it was a delightful experience. The dish was perfectly cooked, not oily at all, and had just the right balance of flavors. It was undoubtedly the best beer-cooked duck I've ever tried. This restaurant is truly a gem. +2025 June added comment This Chinese restaurant offers amazing value for money, especially with their lunch menu. The food tastes authentic, portions are just right, and the presentation is great. Dinner and weekend menus are also very impressive. Highly recommended!

We had din sum for my whole family, 9 people. The atmosphere was perfect. They have large turntables that allow the food to be easily rotated. The food was excellent. The service was incredible. We were served with everything that we ordered with 15 minutes. We will definitely come back.

KungFu 12 Szechuan Restaurant in Towson, MD, has become a staple for me over the years, whether I’m dining with a large group or enjoying a quiet date night. This restaurant consistently impresses with both the quality of its food and the excellent service. A major perk is that it's BYOB with no corkage fees, allowing you to bring your favorite wine or beer to enjoy with your meal—something not every restaurant offers. The restaurant’s spacious dining room features a mix of table and booth seating, and the tables can be rearranged to accommodate large groups—up to 20+ diners—making it a great choice for gatherings. The menu offers a fantastic mix of American Chinese staples like General Tso's chicken and beef with broccoli, but the real star is the selection of traditional Szechuan dishes, which provide an authentic and bold flavor experience. Some of the must-tries at KungFu include their mapo tofu, which is perfectly balanced with numbing spice, and the chilled cucumber salad, which is absolutely addictive. The Peking Duck is another crowd favorite, served with all the traditional fixings. For those craving American Chinese comfort food, don't miss the hot and sour soup, which is a standout, and the honey walnut shrimp, featuring jumbo shrimp perfectly fried and piled high with a delicious sauce. If you're looking for a great value, the lunch specials are also a hit. For around $15, you get a soup, a main course, and rice—an excellent deal for the quality of food. Overall, KungFu 12 is undoubtedly the best Chinese food in Towson. Whether you're grabbing takeout, enjoying a cozy table for two, or hosting a large group, this spot has everything you need for a satisfying meal. Highly recommended!

I think this is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area that excels in both traditional Chinese cuisine and American-Chinese dishes. The only drawback is that there are many menu items I’m unfamiliar with, but the portions, taste, and price are all excellent. It’s a popular spot, with many takeout orders as well, and the quality remains high. The variety of dishes is impressive, and most of them are quite good.

Been going here for years! We usually celebrate anything and everything including New Year’s Eve traditionally. The service here is excellent! They do not waste any time and are quick with cooking and bringing out the dishes! Since we’ve been going here, the quality of the food is consistent and amazing! My favorites are the salt pepper squid, walnut shrimp, garlic cucumber and the sweet and sour pork in scoop. Can’t beat the portions and prices either. The best part is that this restaurant is great for hosting large parties and not to mention it is BYOB! It also sits in a small business park so parking is never an issue if you have ones that need and accommodations with distance. If you’re craving some good Chinese food with good quality, check out this place !
